Keeping Children Safe

I often get asked by adults “What do I do if I think a child looks lost or something just does not seem right?” These days people are concerned about getting involved but we say please do. So how do you protect yourself and get the child help?

Comfort the child but use restraint in physically touching him or her. If the child is able to speak, ask if they’re lost or if they know where their parent is.

Refrain from requesting too much personal information, remember we teach children not to give out this information to people they don’t know.

If you have a cell phone, contact authorities so they can immediately respond.

Try to find someone nearby who can assist or ask a passer by to stand with you until help arrives.

Please, do not take the child far from the immediate location and do not put them in your car and drive off seeking help. Waiting in the area where you found the child will help authorities begin their search for the parent.
